Demar's Story

From Student to Mentor at Chickenshed

Demar, a member of Chickenshed since 2015, embarked on an educational journey that started with the Btec Extended Diploma course. He later continued to pursue higher education, enrolling in the Foundation degree and eventually earning a BA. His journey took an exciting turn as he was hired as an Artistic Staff Member and Mentor.

Discovering Chickenshed

Demar's introduction to Chickenshed came through the influence of his older sister during his secondary school years. From a young age, Demar had a deep passion for performing arts, which he enjoyed more than traditional academic subjects. Despite the paths his friends took, he felt a calling for something more fulfilling and enjoyable, leading him to Chickenshed.

Warmth and Friendliness

For Demar, Chickenshed was a refreshing change of pace from the hardened environments he was accustomed to. He was initially bewildered by the warmth and friendliness of everyone he encountered at Chickenshed. It was a place where strangers would approach him and introduce themselves, creating an atmosphere of kindness and acceptance that he eventually became accustomed to.

Current Roles

Now, Demar finds himself performing in multiple shows and Galas, a testament to the diverse opportunities Chickenshed offers. Beyond the stage, he also has the privilege of teaching and mentoring in educational settings.

As a member of the outreach team, he engages with different communities through impactful shows like Crime of the Century and Day One Big School. Additionally, he has taken the initiative to develop his own outreach show called "Ride Or Die," which is making a meaningful impact in the community. As he reflects on the remarkable journey he's had, he's excited for all that lies ahead.
